What is the normal working week like?

The course is organised as an intensive full-time course, starting in late September and finishing at the start of the following September. Much of the week will be taken up with seminars and lectures, on top of which you will be heavily involved in reading the relevant literature, preparing seminars and material for workshops and preparing material for assignments. Most MSc courses estimate that for every in class hour, students are expected to engage in 6 hours independent study time. You will therefore appreciate how demanding our course is if you work out the numbers involved, so please don't underestimate how busy you are likely to be. Taking a part-time job during the course is not acceptable.

From January onwards, you will start planning your research dissertation, and from April onwards you will be heavily involved in your dissertation. At this stage, previous assignments will have prepared you to engage in a larger scale piece of research in collaboration with your dissertation supervisor. So, at this stage, you will be more heavily involved in your own studies.
