Professor David Canter is the Director of the CIP
and the current Course Director of the MSc in Investigative Psychology.
He has co-edited 6 books on Investigative psychology and the detection
of crime (with Dr Alison), has an international reputation as a key
figure in the critical assessment and evaluation of psychological advice
provided in major investigations and has provided legal and investigative
advice in several major criminal investigations. He is also very well
known internationally for his earlier work in environmental psychology
and industrial safety.
Professor Ian Donald, who is the Head of Department designate for the
Psychology Department has also been with the CIP since the start, having
supervised many projects and published in the area. He has extensive
experience in occupational psychology and has provided advice to major
financial institutions (particularly in terms of safety procedures).
Dr Donna Youngs has been involved with the CIP since the beginning as
a student, and has recently joined us as a lecturer and is currently
involved with a series of projects on youth offending.
Dr Shane Johnson recently joined us as a lecturer and has been working
within the field of forensic psychology for nine years. He has published
widely on a variety of topics including eyewitness testimony and crime
prevention and has conducted research for, amongst others, the Home
Office and ESRC.
Dr Graham Wagstaff is widely know for his work on hypnosis, including
its use in police cases as well as his studies of psychological aspects
of Jurisprudence.
Dr Clifford Stott studies crowd disorder and the impact of policing
on crowd behaviour.
Dr Jon Coles although best known for his work in psychopharmacology
is developing studies of psychological issues in the police use of firearms.
Other lecturers are drawn from staff of the Psychology Department and
other associated departments at Liverpool University, including the
Faculty of Law and Department of Clinical Psychology. Visiting lecturers
from British and overseas police forces and universities also contribute
and several lectures are provided by Senior Detectives who have worked
on some of the most significant UK criminal investigations in the last
30 years. A team of Post-Doctoral Fellows, who are members of the Centre
of Investigative Psychology are also on hand to provide guidance and
support.
