Dr Craig Bennell

Craig Bennell received his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of
Liverpool, UK. Since 2002, Craig has been a Professor in the Department
of Psychology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, where he runs
the Police Research Laboratory, funded through the Canadian Foundation
for Innovation. His major research interests focus on developing ways
to improve the quality of decision-making in a law enforcement context.
Much of this work examines whether Signal Detection Theory can provide
a general framework for improving the accuracy and utility of police
decision-making (as is the case in other fields, such as radiology,
engineering, and the military). Another line of research focuses on
enhancing police performance through the use of computerized simulation
training (particularly in use-of-force situations). Craig currently
sits on the VICLAS Research Advisory Committee for the Royal Canadian
Mounted Police and helps coordinate the newly formed, but quickly
growing, Canadian Committee of Police Psychologists. He also sits on
the Editorial Board of the Journal of Investigative Psychology and
Offender Profiling.
